Sooners Football Game Date Night

Thanks to my dad's job, I grew up going to college football games every week of football season. 

It's really hard to be a regular person now. You have to think about where to park and how much to pay to park and tickets alone are way more expensive at Oklahoma than they were at BYU.

Our first year here we went to one game. Then last year we went to zero since Easton was a brand new baby. So this year we went to one game, as well. But it was a good one--TCU @ OU with a close finish. Plus we had fireworks and the Sooner Schooner after every score---I swear that wagon is my favorite thing. The guy that drives it even proposed to his girlfriend in it during halftime!!

Don't mind my blanket skirt in the picture. It was pretty cold and I guess the girl we asked to take a picture couldn't be inconvenienced to try very hard. 

When other people ask ME to take their pictures, I make sure they're frame worthy! In the words of Cam from Modern Family, "Some people make home videos, I pride myself in making home films."

Someone made fun of me for bringing a blanket to the game but when I came back from the bathroom, this is what I saw :)    (...Blaine, wrapped up in my blanket)

But I was warm the whole game while others were a little chilly.
Blaine DID treat me to a hot chocolate, though.

The marching band stood in our aisle during part of the 4th quarter.

I love marching bands. They just give me a sentimental feeling of football season.

People started leaving in the beginning of the 4th quarter because they thought we had secured our lead. When we were all packed in, we were pretty warm. But once we had a bunch of space around us then it got a little colder. But that also meant I was able to sit in front of Blaine and lean back on his legs. Even though we weren't in the student section, EVERYONE stands during play and sits during time outs. EVERYONE. Very festive. Kills my back and feet, but I love it.

We bought our tickets in September and this game was the Saturday before Thanksgiving. But the closer it got, we had a harder and harder time of finding someone to watch Easton. We decided to just bundle him up and bring him, but then found out he needed his own ticket. (SERIOUSLY?!) And tickets are super expensive. So I figured we just couldn't go and tried to sell them online, but once people saw that, several offered to babysit. So we were SO grateful to be able to leave Easton with some of our friends. They have a toddler and a baby, but once they went to bed, Easton stayed up and watched football with our friends. Not even tired. He waited up for us :)

Blaine's 29th Birthday

The day before Thanksgiving (2 days before Blaine's birthday) we drove northwest about an hour and a half to Roman Nose State Park. We packed a picnic and explored, but poor Jakey stepped in a cactus.

The Black Friday was Blaine's 29th Birthday. He got in a birthday lift, we put up some Christmas decorations, and did a little Christmas shopping for Easton. 

Then we went out to dinner at Hu Hot (since he never gets to go there since I'm not a big fan) and he got to open presents and have ice cream!

And of course, his favorite present: his BYU/Track blanket I made for him out of our old shirts. 

The opposite side is a fleece BYU pattern I had to special order since we obviously don't carry that in Oklahoma. It was such a big accomplishment for me, so I have no problem showing it off. 

I love it and so does he, which is saying something ;)

Happy Birthday, Blainey. We're glad you were born.

Ice Storm... Our 2 days Without Power

It was a morning like any other... 

We had heard about an ice storm coming, but lots of weather warnings don't come to fruition around here. (Here is Easton picking out some marshmallows from his Lucky Charms)

 The trees had all frozen over and the weight of that broke a lot of the branches off

Blaine and I bundled up and went in the backyard to assess the damage (and see the branches weighing down our power lines) and this cute boy kept watch from inside

That fell into our yard from the neighbors, but only broke one plank of our fence

After sitting in the house and watching the temperature drop all day, we went to the mall to buy a Christmas gift and enjoy a fancy dinner at the food court. New family tradition? ;) 

Easton even experienced his first ride on the toy car

Blaine and I were in the kitchen and realized he didn't know where Easton was and the house was all dark. So Blaine took a lantern and took off down the hall calling to him. I was a little behind him, but I grabbed a lantern and started calling to him, too. After I passed through the living room I heard a noise in the curtains and saw this.

HE IS SO FUNNY!!! He likes to play peek-a-boo/hide-and-seek with Jake in the curtains. He wasn't even scared of the dark! But he also didn't answer when we called to him... Thats commitment. We better teach him a safe word or something ;)

Unfortunately, this was the same day as the OU-OSU game. We were planning on going to Gameday in Stillwater that morning, but the weather put a stop to that. We watched the first half of the game at our neighbors house and the second half on Blaine's phone, with all 4 of us cuddled up on the bed

The next morning we went for a drive to enjoy the heater and to look at damage in surrounding neighborhoods. It looked like our area got hit the worst from what we saw. We were without power for TWO days! The first night it was pretty easy to have a good attitude and make the best of our indoor family campout, but after that... we struggled...

 We bought some lofthouse cookies that night and 

SOMEBODY got into them when we weren't looking

Fortunately, it came back on Monday morning... and we were SO grateful. 

Poor Blaine, though, still hasn't had time to take care of all our branches
